留学感悟－美国迪斯尼实习项目

I work in Walt Disney world as a cast member in the food and beverage department. Orlando is a quiet and small city with many different kinds of theme parks and sea world. Every day, people from all around the world and other cities in America come to WDW to spend their vacations. There are four theme parks, two water parks and over twenty theme resorts in WDW. People in Orlando are very friendly to each other because it is a tourism city. People always take a flight to Orlando and rent a car here. Also, the transportation provided by WDW is good. People can go wherever they want during their vacation.

Accommodation was provided by WDW. They built four different apartments for CP (College Program) and ICP (International College Program). When I came here, I got my key to the apartment. There are four American roommates. Therefore, we have six people in a big apartment. We share kitchen, and different kinds of food, which is very interesting. Besides, there are swimming pools and fitness center near the apartment. Supermarket and post office are still not far away from where I live.

1.     Tip for other interns
Get along with your roommates, co-workers, coordinator, manager, leader. They are all very nice. Don’t be shy to talk to them or hang out with them.

2.     Internship duties:
I work at a quick service restaurant, which is called “market place”. he major thing I have to do is that making sure guests’ safety while they are enjoy their food. That is to say that you are responsible for all the customers’ food safety. I also need to make sure all of the food is under the appropriate temperature. Besides, I need to order all the staff at night for the use of the next day, which is important for the whole running of the restaurant. In addition, one of my duties is to throw away all the bad food, which is out of date.

3.     The typical working day
All the J1 visa holders are not allowed to work over 40 hours per week because of the hour limitation. They only allow us to work five days per week. However, I can not choose whenever I want to work. I usually work at night, from 5.pm to 1.am. five days a week, and I have two days off. I will spend one afternoon to take courses to earn my credits. It is kind of late shift but when you finish closing the restaurant, you can have a lot of fun.

4.     The atmosphere
The atmosphere is good when I work in the quick service restaurant. There is no Chinese in my work place so I can not speak Chinese any more when I am working. Some of my co-workers are from the other states of the United States. Some of them are from Asia. We just call fort name to each other no matter who you are, a manager, a leader, a coordinator, whatever. People are all very nice to each other. You could say hi and how are you to every single people, even he is a stranger.

5.     The compensation
Working as a cast member in WDW, I get paid ten dollars per hour. I work for about 37.5 per week, so I can get about 375 dollars per week not including the taxes and the rent of out apartment.  Finally, I will get paid 220 dollars per week. Currently, I don’t have a second job but I think my job is good enough.

This month, I travelled in New York city and New Jersey. I work in Walt Disney World, Orlando, Florida. I think it is the great honor for me to work in such a big company and to create happiness to people from all over the world. I feel so lucky to be here to be a cast member to let people enjoy their vacation and have fun in WDW. I make a lot of sense why people come back to Walt Disney World again and again. It is a place where dreams come true.  If possible, I want to go to Shanghai Disney resort to renew the experience with Chinese cast members. It will be a long trip for me to expire the multicultural environment and difference between different countries and society. When we talk to each other, there is still culture shock for everybody a to recognize the difference. It is the culture collision. During this month, I earn my first salary in my whole life, which is much happier. Disney is a magical place, I wish everybody have a magical life.
